BADAN PENYELENGGARA JAMINAN PRODUK HALAL (BPJPH)

BPJPH

The Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH), or the Halal Product Assurance Agency, operates under Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs. Established under Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance, the BPJPH is responsible for ensuring that products entering, circulating, and traded in Indonesia comply with halal standards; press here (Decree KMA 748/2021) and shall be preceded by:

  • Halal Registration: Procedures only apply to products that have a halal certificate from a recognized foreign HCB (here) and having halal standards that are in accordance with the Halal Product Assurance System SJPH (No. 57/2021 and No. 20/2023) and follow SJPH criteria (Commitment & Responsibility, Materials, Halal Product Process, Product, and Monitoring & Evaluation).
  • Halal Certification: If HCB does not have an MRA with BPJPH, then the halal product certification process is carried out by BPJPH, referring to the Indonesia halal certification process (Halal Certification Registration, Halal Inspection Agency, Halal Fatwa/Halal Decree, and Halal Certification Issuance).

 

The halal certification process must be supported by competent human resources as Halal Auditor (No. 33/2014 and PP No. 39/2021), and the Halal Supervisor (who may be from the business itself or from a third party and shall be Muslim and had training) must be supported by the halal management team. This team involves all relevant parties in the implementation of the SJPH and ensures that all personnel maintain the integrity of the Halal Product Assurance at the business, including suppliers, partners, and distributors.
